Homemade Natural Remedies for Cough

Most cough occur as a symptom of a cold, flu or sinus infections, although more serious problems like lung infections can also cause coughing. In most cases, cough clears your throat and lungs of mucus and other irritating particles. An ongoing or severe cough may indicate a more serious problem. Homemade natural remedies can help you deal with the discomfort. If your cough remains for more than two weeks, consult your doctor to determine the cause and for further treatment.

Honey and Lemon for Cough:

Honey is a natural cough suppressant to get rid of dry and barking cough. Fill three tablespoons of lemon juice in a bowl. Pour a cup of honey in the bowl with the lemon juice. Add slowly a quarter cup of warm water into the bowl with the lemon juice and honey. Stir as you pour it into the bowl. Cover and refrigerate your homemade cough medicine. Drink a tablespoon or two of cough medicine to calm barking cough and irritated throat.

Stronger Homemade Cough Medicine:

 Add a quarter teaspoon of cayenne pepper to a bowl. Add a quarter teaspoon ginger in the bowl.  Add a tablespoon of honey and a tablespoon of vinegar, preferably apple cider vinegar for a sweeter taste. Add two tablespoons of cold water. Stir the contents, pour into a container and refrigerate. Take at least three teaspoons of this concoction for your cough as needed. It is not good in taste but it’s an effective remedy to stop coughing.

Herbal Tea for Whopping Cough:

. A particularly effective tea can be produced from the following herbs. Prepare the mixture: 10 g licorice root, 10 g of crushed fennel, 10 g Iceland moss, 25 g marshmallow root, 30g thyme leaves, 15 g ribwort well messed amounts. Add them in 150 ml of boiling water and strain. Drink a cup of freshly prepared tea several times a day. With this combination of herbs especially the thyme leaves play an important role in the fight against cough. The thyme oil has a strong antibacterial and antiviral activity. The active ingredients of thyme are also used against whooping cough and asthma.

Onion and Milk for coughing:

Onion and Milk can be used as a natural cough suppressant. Add the juice of a large onion in a glass of warm milk, sweetened with a teaspoon of honey, and drink 2 or 3 times a day.
